CAN BAS OBTAINS THE QUALIFIED ESTATE WINES CERTIFICATION
FOR FOUR OF ITS WINES SIMULTANEOUSLY: LA CREU, LA CAPELLA, LA ROMANA & MONREAL
On December 15, the Palau de Pedralbes hosted one of the most significant wine-related events of the year: the awarding of the Qualified Estate Wines certification to four emblematic wines from Can Bas Domini Vinícola: La Creu, La Romana, La Capella, and Monreal.
With this recognition—granted only to wines of exceptional and proven qualitative coherence—Can Bas joins a select group of wineries that have certified an indissoluble bond between vineyard, landscape, ecosystem, history, and identity.
The Qualified Estate Wines distinction is the highest recognition of origin a wine can receive in Catalonia. It is awarded exclusively to wines that, over a long period of time, have demonstrated a personality inseparable from the place where they are born, intimately linked to singular parcels cultivated under strict criteria. These are wines that have proven sustained quality and a long-standing track record of consistency.
To obtain this certification, estates must undergo a demanding validation process that guarantees the uniqueness of the terroir, full traceability, respectful vineyard management, and consistent quality across vintages. That four wines from Can Bas have achieved this recognition simultaneously highlights the depth of the viticultural project developed by Pere Ventura, its owner, on his estate in the Penedès, as well as the exemplary management of a wine estate that preserves the singularity of each parcel, acknowledges the richness of every vineyard, and exercises strict care for the surrounding landscape.

An Estate with centuries of history
Can Bas is much more than a collection of vineyards: it is a historic wine estate, documented for over 2,700 years, where agriculture, heritage, and landscape have evolved together. The area currently occupied by Can Bas, in the heart of Subirats, is a mosaic of old and new terraces; agricultural paths following the route of the ancient Via Augusta; a historic farmhouse transformed into a manor house; and vineyard plots with their own names, history, and character.
The geographic and cultural particularities create a privileged setting for high-value viticulture, where every decision is made with a long-term vision and an absolute commitment to the land.
Each of the wines from Can Bas is a dialogue between the vineyard and the precise intervention of the technical team, which works with utmost respect for nature and the estate’s agricultural history.

Wines that highlight their origin
The four wines recognized as Vins de Finca Qualificada are an exemplary demonstration of how terroir can express itself with character and authenticity. According to the recent description by journalist and communicator Ruth Troyano, this is the profile of the resulting wines:
Can Bas La Creu, from a 1.3-hectare vineyard planted in 1994, “is a full-bodied Sauvignon Blanc, unpretentious yet aromatically rich. It reflects the austerity of the soil and shows honesty on the palate, being complex while also fresh and dynamic.”
Can Bas La Romana comes from a small section of the La Romana and El Serral parcels, with soils that provide an exceptional balance between structure and freshness. “It is a mature, age-worthy wine with a creamy texture, intense and long, requiring patience before release.” Its name recalls the estate’s millennial past.
Can Bas La Capella originates from one of the few Syrah plots in the Penedès, covering 1.8 hectares, where the vines face the estate’s Romanesque chapel. “In the El Repòs parcel, there is a sense of calm, but also character and personality. The vineyard’s chromatic tapestry transforms into harmony and persistence on the palate. An intimate wine, from vines nearly thirty years old, speaking of providence and alliances.”
Can Bas Monreal comes from a small terrace of the plot bearing the same name. “It pays tribute to the tenacity of the farmers and honors the Monreal lineage, the estate managers who safeguarded these lands for generations after the phylloxera outbreak.” On the palate, it offers complexity, warmth, and a richness of nuances. “In this bottle, the nobility of the Cabernet Sauvignon variety and the winemaker’s craft are fully expressed.”
A recognition that looks to the future
With the recognition of these new Vins de Finca Qualificada, Can Bas consolidates its position as a reference winery in the production of wines that tell the story of their origin. The estate joins the elite of Catalan winemaking and reaffirms a way of working that honors the past, works steadfastly in the present, and embraces the future—while elevating the authenticity and quality of Penedès wines.
