WINE SPECTATOR SCORES 94 AND 93 POINTS FOR MERUM PRIORATI WINES
Some of the region’s most powerful and highly acclaimed reds, according to the publication
Merum Priorati El Cel 2023 and Merum Priorati Destí 2023, crafted by Pere Ventura at the winery located in the village of Porrera in Priorat, have been awarded 94 and 93 points out of 100 respectively in a recent tasting by the prestigious U.S. publication Wine Spectator, a global benchmark in the world of wine.
Senior editor Alison Napjus has described Merum Priorati El Cel 2023 as
“A lovely red, subtle at first, with its satiny, palate-caressing texture carrying a finely woven range of black cherry pâte de fruit, plum sauce, crushed gravel, chopped rosemary, cumin, paprika and white pepper. Reveals itself slowly and in layers, with the firm but limber tannins and juicy acidity providing a refined frame. Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon, Carignan and Syrah. Drink now through 2038.”

For Napjus, Merum Priorati Destí 2023 stands out for its
“Sinewy tannins are fleshed out nicely with crushed black raspberry and wild strawberry fruit, sweet tobacco, spice box and red licorice notes in this focused and lively style, with a minerally streak of iron and stone that rises up on the firm, chalky finish. Enjoyable now but should really shine with cellaring. Best from 2029 through 2040”

The wines of Merum Priorati are a true expression of Priorat’s character, born from steep llicorella slate hillsides where only heroic winegrowers are capable of cultivating such a demanding terroir. In the winery, a minimal-intervention approach is followed in winemaking, in pursuit of excellence, where the expression of the fruit always takes centre stage.
The wines of Merum Priorati have accumulated more than 60 awards and distinctions to date at both national and international level. Among these accolades, a particularly notable highlight is Merum Priorati Destí 2018, which was selected as the 4th Best Wine in the World in 2021 by Wine Spectator, as well as the Platinum award granted by the publication Decanter.
Merum Priorati (DOQ Priorat) is part of the Pere Ventura Family Wine Estates group, alongside the wineries Pere Ventura (DO Cava) and Can Bas Domini Vinícola (DO Penedès).
