PERE VENTURA RENEWS THE CARBON FOOTPRINT
with the commitment to reducing environmental impact and becoming more sustainable
Pere Ventura has just renewed the carbon footprint calculation certification in accordance with the standards of the European regulatory framework GHG Protocol for the cultivation, production, and sale of cava, issued by Bureau Veritas. According to this certification, Pere Ventura has successfully met Scope 1 and 2, levels that certify the reduction of emissions from:
- combustion in vehicles and mobile equipment
- emissions from combustion in fixed installations
- emissions derived from the use and maintenance of CO2 fire extinguishers
- fugitive emissions
- direct GHG (greenhouse gas) emissions caused by imported energy
The carbon footprint certification in accordance with GHG Protocol standards involves following a series of rigorous and demanding steps and guidelines. Initially, a comprehensive inventory of greenhouse gas emissions must be carried out, including direct and indirect emissions related to the activities subject to certification. This implies considering emissions from consumed energy, employee commutes, business trips, transportation activities, and any other relevant sources. This measure allows for a clear and precise understanding of the environmental impact generated by the company and identifies the main sources of emissions. Additionally, the methodology used for this certification allows for the comparison of emissions with other companies in the same sector and for evaluating environmental performance.
The carbon footprint certification not only identifies emissions but also helps to detect opportunities for optimization and energy savings. Through emissions analysis, Pere Ventura has been able to identify inefficient processes and set emission reduction targets.
The measures taken by Pere Ventura to contribute to reducing environmental impact and making its business activity more sustainable have primarily included:
- sourcing raw materials with a higher percentage of recycled material, especially in cardboard for packaging or the wire cages that hold cork stoppers
- using fewer raw materials, such as reducing the glass in bottles. Thus, Pere Ventura has managed to reduce the amount of glass by 7.2%
- maximum reduction of paper use in all departments, especially in administration and production, in favor of digitization
- gradually incorporating an electric vehicle fleet
- training various human teams in eco-driving courses
- installing LED lighting
- contracting renewable energy supply with GDO (Renewable Energy Guarantee of Origin)
- underground galleries in the bottle aging process at a natural, constant, and controlled temperature
With this certification, Pere Ventura reinforces its commitment to environmental responsibility, making it possible to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and mitigate the environmental impact of the winery’s activities. Additionally, Pere Ventura also holds the water footprint certification and has obtained the Biosphere certificate for its commitment to sustainable tourism.
Obtaining the carbon footprint certification is a clear indicator of Pere Ventura’s ongoing concern and sensitivity toward the care, preservation, and protection of the environment, the flora and fauna, the forests and streams surrounding its estates, the well-being of the people working in the winery, and ultimately the firm determination to leave a better environment, land, and planet for future generations.
